A gamer's phone!?
You've heard the news right? Razer made a smartphone! The company was known for awesome gaming machines and other accessories, but they recently acquired a phone company called Nextbit, and probably decided to give it a shot.

So how is Razer's first ever smartphone? It's dope! Why else would I be bothered with it? Let's take a closer look at this thing.

NextBit Robin's brother!
The phone largely follows the same design language from the Nextbit Robin. The same boxy, xperia-ish design with circular cut outs for the front camera and sensors remind me of the same phone. Even the fingerprint sensor in the power button is the same as the Robin.

This phone, as Razer says, is not exactly a gaming phone. It's more of a phone made for gamers. That must include emphasis on display, battery longevity and sound right? Yeah, they've royally nailed them all!

The BEST speakers ever!
Let's start with those incredibly front facing speakers. Razer says each speaker had it's own independent amp for a volume boost, and it shows! These are by far THE BEST speakers on any smartphone out there! There isn't too much distortion, even at that deafening max volume.

The display on the Razer phone is a 5.7 inch QHD IGZO panel, manufactured by Sharp. It's the same display as you would find on a Razer blade laptop. And yes, it features a jaw dropping 120 Hz refresh rate. Razer is calling it UltraMotion™ technology.

It doesn't sound cool unless you have a classy trademark name for it. It still sounds miles better than Apple's name for it on the iPad pro 10.5 (ProMotion, lol).

The animations are incredibly fluid and spot on. There literally is zero delay between your finger and the elements on the touchscreen. Even the pixel seems slow in comparison to this monster. I'm absolutely loving it.

Well done Razer on bringing the first ever smartphone to support a display with refresh rates up to 120 Hz.

That's right, I said "up to". It is smart enough to automatically lower it's frame rates when you have it lying on a single page without interaction, it while watching a low frame rate video. It's set to 90 Hz out of the box to go easy on the battery, but I suggest you immediately crank it up to 120 Hz.

Speaking of battery, the Razer phone is packing it! It has a massive 4000 mAh unit along with Qualcomm quick charge 4.0! That's another first for a smartphone, I believe. Correct me if I'm (somehow) wrong, in the comments.

The cameras on this phone are pretty good too. The rear camera is a iPhone like set up, with a 12 mp standard sensor with f/1.7 aperture, and another 12 mp telephoto sensor.

They don't give any fancy background blur modes here, but they plan to give you lossless zoom whole pinching in and out, as usual.

Decent cameras
The 8 mp front camera can also produce crisp looking pictures with satisfactory quality. It doesn't take much to satisfy me from a selfie perspective, but that is obviously subjective.

Just know that this isn't a camera other phone. It will get the job done well enough, but will not be able to take punches from the likes of the Pixel 2 or the S8.

There are a few minor things which I don't like about this monster. It does not have a headphone jack, which needless to say, sucks.

There does not seem to be any water resistance on board and the display does not get bright enough for a "flagship".

This crazy refresh rate would look incredible on an OLED, but apparently it is not possible to implement it yet. Maybe the Razer phone 2 will fix this stuff. I don't think the headphone jack will be back though.

Slightly cheap feeling volume buttons.
It doesn't matter what anyone says or how good wireless solutions turn out to be. Not having a headphone jack is the mother of all annoyances, end of argument. Razer said they could put it in because of the insane speaker drivers.

I guess it can be a justifiable trade off to someone who doesn't mind playing on those loud speakers. I don't like gaming on speakers, and don't like dongles either. I guess that puts me in the minority list.

Literally my ringer volume!
Spec wise, it is running on the Snapdragon 835 with 8 gigs of RAM. Razer has implemented some cooling techniques using the metal frame of the phone itself. They say it's the coolest phone to be rocking an SD835.

There's just 64 GB on board surface, such night seem a little less compared to the likes of OnePlus 5.
But there's micro SD extension up to another 256 GB. Gamers will know their way around high capacity SD cards anyway, so it shouldn't be a problem to many.

My new favorite!
All things considered, Razer has made an awesome phone. Not just for gamers, but for anyone who wants an incredible experience out of their premium smartphone purchase. That premium is $699 as of now. Seems pretty justifiable to me.
